SynapseCity

SynapseCity explores a system approach to design, taking the dynamic and adaptive synaptic system of information exchange, reinforcement and connection generation into an urban implementation. The system attempts to resolve problems regarding densification of the existing city and housing within it both city-dweller and suburbanite.

Taught By The Best

Last semester Pete and Alex took a class taught by Stanislav Roudavski called Production of Digital Space. The class was extremely stimulating and engaging. Some of the research Stanislav has been conducting at the University of Melbourne was recently posted on suckerPUNCH.

I have just started to have a play around in ecotect, ot seems pretty logical, but there isnt a lot of documentation on the web about it. I did come across this website which was pretty useful.

Skyblog Header Cut

Idle hands do the devil's work.......

With nothing to do in the fablab, the most logical use of Alex's time with 4 weeks until thesis is due was to cut more Skylab promo material.

Relentless Exploration

Design Algorithm_City Growth Possibilities

Starting an exploration into the future city led to generating an algorithm to iterate through the possibilities of growth which may feed into a design framework with an intention of improving the future city of Melbourne

The HUB_Parametric Facade System

For a past design project, we looked at replicating craft inspiration parametrically, responding to climatic and programmatic conditions with rigid folding surfaces. An origami fold pattern was used to generate the form of the main facade system.

Space, The Final Promotional Frontier

With the launch of Skylab fast approaching, look of for Skylab material... in the lift, outside the labs, on top of the Phooey posters......

....the end

Late Night with old renders and diagrams being compiled in AfterEffects for the final sequence of the presentation.

IndiscreetAgents

The other end of the spectrum from the Secret Agent, the Indiscreet Agent is a set of simulations aimed at using particle systems for generative outcomes and testing.

This system uses particles with a random movement generator, the particles have both attraction and repellent forces acting within the field, similar to the three bodied problem. The colour of the agents changes when two particles come close enough to experience a force of attraction.

SkylabSupercore

After the finalisation of the logo, Skylab digitally fabricated its first round of marketing material, focusing on guerilla distribution, in lifts, on bikes, and the jackets of men with very deep v necks....
